Insulation Film
High-performance insulation film in track construction for effective stray current separation
Insulation Film is a self-adhesive insulating film for track construction providing electrical separation between rail and structure. The film prevents stray current corrosion, protects concrete track support bodies and extends the service life of track installations.
Product Features
- Very high electrical insulation of the rail
- Protection against stray current and corrosion
- Quick installation without specialist tools
- Subsequent repairs easily possible
- Suitable for embedded track systems
Protection against stray current in urban track construction
In electrified track installations, stray currents arise that can damage concrete and reinforcement in the long term. Effective electrical separation is therefore crucial for the service life of the infrastructure. The Insulation Film creates a continuous separating layer between rail and surroundings. This significantly reduces electrochemical processes in the structure. Measured values show very high resistances in the range of several tens of thousands of ohms per kilometre.
Operating principle of rail insulation
The Insulation Film consists of a polymer-bitumen-coated carrier with a self-adhesive underside. After application, a closed insulation layer forms along the rail.
The film:
- Prevents current leakage into concrete
- Reduces corrosion of reinforcement
- Protects adjacent components from moisture
Watertightness is maintained even under pressure loading.
Installation on the construction site
Installation is carried out directly by unrolling on a cleaned substrate.
Additional safety measures or specialist equipment are not required.
Installation can take place:
- On the construction site
- In the depot
- Before or after rail installation
Subsequent adjustments are also easily possible.
Durability in operation
The film remains permanently functional under mechanical loading and weathering.
Properties:
- Watertight at high test pressure
- High elongation at break
- Impact resistant
- Resistant to salts and aqueous solutions
- Temperature resistant to low temperatures
Typical areas of application
- Tramway slab track
- Embedded tracks in the street
- Grass track
- Depots and workshops
- Tunnels and bridges
Benefits for operators
- Lower maintenance costs
- Extended service life of the structure
- Reduced corrosion damage
- Higher operational safety
